They seem to want to ensure you are actually active when you are trying to use the pokemon plus feature.

There is no plugging in your phone for the night and sitting on a pokestop, letting it spin all night. I'm not really qualified to speak on it, but it seems there is some sort of API call to Niantic's servers in order to connect these devices and in order to prevent it from being a set and forget type of thing, they send some sort of signal to disconnect on something like an hourly basis. These disconnects hourly actually seems to be by design. Sometimes the pokeball icon glitches and still shows connected (colored instead of grey). The PoGo app does not notify you when it disconnects your device. It provides a notification when the pokemon plus device disconnects.

Now that I use the companion app, I can connect by pressing the button once on the gotcha. I constantly press the button to prevent the device from turning itself off(sleeping) before the connection completes. My gotcha never consistently connected before if I only pressed the button once. It makes the gotcha connect without having to prevent the device from going back into sleep mode. I recently got the companion app produced by a 3rd party on android. Simply curving the ball and using the quick capture technique is the better option unless you simply have to be hands free. Especially with some of the horrible base catch rates of newer pokemon (even with the recent adjustments) means you really only make decent catch rates when dealing with event spawns that have a temporarily modified base catch rate. You don't get a 2nd chance on a gotcha or plus catch. The next day I would go out thinking I had a pass in reserve only to come to the realization, I never claimed it.Īs for catches, if you want to use that feature, you can still only use red balls and the catch attempt is made as a straight throw with no catch rate bonuses and results in an immediate run or caught response. I have forgotten to claim so many passes by leaving a gym after completing a raid and not realizing. It helps me not forget to spin the gym after consuming yesterday's raid pass because it basically collects it for me. I can do a rocket battle or fight a gym and the gotcha spins in the background. But I love how my gotcha spins while I'm battling. You can not assign spinning stops and gyms as a priority over attempting a pokemon catch so I'm better off setting the app to only attempt spins. Most of the features are limited by how the app is programmed to communicate and work with the original plus accessory. But it's not an auto catcher, its an auto spinner. If you aren't familiar, then there are a few things to know. IMO, you need to heavily temper your expectations for any of the available devices.
